The Farmory Open House takes place on February 18th, starting at 5:30pm at NeighborWorks Green Bay (437 S. Jackson Street). Will Allen will begin speaking at 6pm.
Food revolutionary, Will Allen, will be speaking at the upcoming Open House for The Farmory. The Farmory is a concept to transform a vacant 20,000 square foot structure owned by NeighborWorks Green Bay into a beautiful indoor farm. The former military armory building will become “The Farmory,” where locally produced food will be grown through innovative aquaculture technology and indoor farming systems. It will also provide job training and entrepreneurial opportunities for area residents. The employment, economic development, and food-related benefits of the operation will provide a triple bottom line of “people, planet, and profit.”
Allen is not only a speaker for Thursday’s Open House. He has been a key player in this project from the very beginning when Milwaukee restaurant legend James Pandl approached Allen on partnering on this project. Pandl saw The Farmory initiative as an opportunity to help start up a public market in his new home of Green Bay, like he had done previously in Milwaukee.
Currently, both Allen and Pandl are board members and see The Farmory as an opportunity to develop an indoor farm and agri-business entrepreneurial program – targeting low and moderate-income residents and veterans seeking to learn farming, improve their job skills, or start a new career or business. Pandl commented “Will Allen is instrumental in guiding us through this process.”
